Healthy breakfast ideas for my 19 year old please?

He doesnt like cereal and usually has a toasted sandwich with cheese but I think he is eating too much fat. Can anyone think of something yummy but healthy ?

Malt loaf and an apple with peanut butter on.Surprisingly amazing!Otherwise I have weetabix with chocolate chunks - a combination of healthy and not so healthy (has he tried weetabix - worth a go? I'm not crazy about cereal either but weetabix rules...)

Instead of cheese, have an egg with a tomato. Or peanut butter on toast. Both have that savoury taste, but are good for you. However, I also suggest that you examine all of his eating habits before you nix the cheese on toast. It could be that he needs that fat...he is a young guy.
Oatmeal is great! I like Quaker Oats because they have individual packets. Fruit %26 Cream are good and provide nominal amounts of fruit, the flavor is great. Fresh fruit is great for mornings too. I try to have a bowl of oatmeal, an apple and a slice of whole wheat toast. It's very filling too and sticks with me until my mid-morning snack (more fruit). Poached eggs, one or two slices of bacon (no sausage - very fatty) and a slice of whole wheat toast is good too.Thanks for being responsible enough to look out for your children's health.
Did you ever try a hard boiled egg? or scrambled eggs? How about french toast. Pancakes r made with milk + egg.I use to make a pudding with milk+ eggs 4 babys breakfast. CUSTARD is another one my baby likes.

who gives a crap about what he likes?... you think I like having to be on a low sodium diet and eating food that tastes like cardboard?. Food is not all about pleasure.
I pretty much alternate between egg based breakfasts and oatmeal. Basically I eat oatmeal with fruits in it almost every morning except about twice a week I have eggs. (yes, eggs might be high in cholesterol, but they're also high in just about every mineral and vitamin your body might need.
The oatmeal might not be the yummiest thing but it is healthy and very filling. Tell that kid to get over worshiping his taste buds and think about feeding his brain and body.
I know somebody like that who constantly complains: "I don't like that"... he only likes bacon and eggs for breakfast and can't go a meal without eating a ton of fat.... he weighs a ton and looks like a big quivering blob of jello.

Breakfast is not the meal to cut on, dinner is. Anything you eat after about seven, goes to waist (sorry).
try the luna bars you can get the tea cakes or the sunrise bars. they have around 150 calories and are very yummy. They are usually sold in the organic section. They also have lots of good vitamins and minerals for women which is also good for you.
if you want to lose weight, forget the breakfast bar and grab a yogurt instead.. there are a lot of great flavors now, some that i think are just as good as some ice creams.. breakfast bars wont satisfy your hunger as well as the yogurt that has a lot of proteingood luck

Healthiest alcohol cocktail?

I am curious for some answers on this. The more, the merrier, as I will likely sample many of your suggestions. I'm looking to drink the most "healthy" drinks possible with liquor. For example I understand vodka has less sugar than, say, rum, so I think a vodka/orange screwdriver might be more healthy than drinking coke and rum. I know alcohol isn't a dieting technique but I do like to watch my calories and sugar as much as possible. Any more ideas?

I feel that the previous answer regarding the Atkins diet is right on the money. However, please make sure that your father has enough cold water to drink during the day. Just plain water all by itself. We need at least 8 - 10 glasses of water per day just to stay hydrated !! If you have a cup of coffee or tea you then need to drink an extra 1.5 glasses of water per cup of coffee/tea. This is because coffee and tea are diuretics and encourage fluid loss. Aswell, a supplementary fiber supplement should be taken as well, preferably whole psylium husk from the health food store. Milk has no starch --- that I know of!
There are minimal carbs / starch in milk.
Atkins is fish, poultry, pork, beef and veggies.
I would get the 1 pound bags , nuke them , then put one of the Marsala curry sauces on, or salsa , or BBQ sauce, but look out because many BBQ sauces have lots of sugar. This would be an excellent time to invent your own BBQ sauce.

Health benefits of cottage cheese?

I lift weights and do cardio 4X a week. I only eat chicken and am constantly trying to get extra protein. I heard cottage cheese may be a good way. Do any of you weight lifters eat it? Is it as healthy as I've heard it is? The consistency scares me but I am willing to try it for extra protein. I bought one of those cottage cheese doubles w/ raspberry sauce but I am afraid the sauce might be too much like a jelly and have too much sugar. Are those okay for 1st timers? It has 14 g of sugar I believe. Let me know your insights on cottage cheese please :)

my 16month old has always been a self proclaimed vegetarian never eating meat which he needs for healthy development. He's always loved cottage cheese and other cheeses though. when I talked to his pediatrician he said as long as he's eating alot of cottage cheese and other dairy he doesnt have to eat meat he gets enough protien from that. They even checked the protien in his blood and it was several points higher than average meat eaters his age. I was sold.Eat the cottage cheese but skip the sauce stuff.

Having a little more than 229 mg of caffine isn't too bad in a 15 year old, is it?

I've been having spurts of caffine boosts all day. Like for example right now I am all jittery and can't keep still, at least my hand. Like when I was trying to find out how much caffine there was in Mountain Dew, I kept tapping my lip really fast and not stopping....I don't know...my mother told me not to have any more caffine becasue next was my heart. Quick fix actually worked for me...I starved myself and lost 30lbs 2 years ago. I haven't gained any weight back ever since. Quick fix would work if you are determined. Anything is possible when you put your mind to it.

YES....and it is so aggervating. I have heard to not weigh yourself while dieting. That some people lose inches and not pounds but thats a big piece of crap. but if you are working out you might be gaining muscle which weighs more than fat. So you could have lost fat but gained muscle. And muscle burns more calories. Don't give up. I am someone who if I don't see results quick i will quit or get upset. Be strong.

I was thinking about buying one but I'm wondering how people like using it in the long run. It's not always practical for me to get out to the gym, so I want something to use at home that will not take up alot of space and stores easily. Yes, rowing machines are an excellent way to exercise the whole body and it's more aerobic than most machines. Renting a row boat on a small lake or large pond is even more fun.

I lose weight from 75 kilos to 62 kilos in 3 months. At present, I simply maintain my weight up to 65 kilos only.

As a result I'm only 25 and have had a stroke, 2 heart attacks, ulcers, stomach infections, and lots of other problems.
I understand your statement of "food as an enemy", your not alone in having those feelings. I too almost died of complications due to an eating disorder. Recovery is a long process, and relapses are common. I suffered mostly from anorexia, but also had bulimic tendencies. I had cardiac arrhythmia, became anemic, and at 17 years of age I had a minor stroke. You just need to come to terms with your own mortality, take it one day at a time.
I have, and i still do. I don't know why. I hate looking at food and people eating, it makes me feel disgusting. i dont like fatness and i need to lose weight, so i shouldnt eat, but then when someone makes me eat i feel terrible after and i dont want to keep it inside me which makes me feel worse.

I have a feeling that by limiting your calories to 200 per day your body will go int 'starvation mode' and you will not lose weight very quickly at all. If you want to change the appearance of your body, then go for the exercises your mentioned. But you need to eat.

I don't think the calories are correct for the foods. And you couldn't survive on 200 calories. I think something like 1200 calories would be more appropriate. The food listed does look healthy though (just the number of calories seems really off). You may want to add a couple of light snacks if you are going to do much exercise.Losing about a pound a week is a reasonable goal. But 5'3" at 100 lbs seems too skinny to me. So don't go overboard! No you will not loose weight, that sounds like the diet used to for heart patients when they need to drop 10 pounds in three days. It works for them because they are completly inactive, and they have liquids being pumped through them to keep their body well. If you do this, being that age, and being that active, you are seriously going to hurt yourself, and your body will go into a panic starvation mode. Your body will feed off your muscle first, then your fat, you really dont want that. Do the exercises before bed, eat a good meal every 3 hours, and drink nothing but water. Youd be surprised how fast weight will come off you, just because of how old you are.Seriously do not do that, a friend of mine did something similar to that, and ended up passing out right in the middle of a walk and almost really hurt himself due to his head hitting the ground so hard, if he had been on concrete or any hard surface he would have been seriously hurt. Luckily it was just on the grass and his head was cushioned a little. But he was still hurt either way. Dude seriously dont do that.

Most people have seen the commercials that advise you to drink 24 oz of milk a day, eat part skim cheeses, yogurt and so forth. I am looking for a safe and steady nutrition plan to be at my goal weight by sunmmer, and I was wondering if anyone has tried this high dairy diet and if it has worked, because I am considering trying it.

I normally eat lots of low fat dairy but last month I did't and I had the worst pmt and no energy and just generally felt sluggish. Low fat dairy is a great source of protein which fills you up for longer and gives you energy. Low fat dairy has also been proven to coat the bowel with calcium (nice!) which means you only absorb half the fat in your diet so this is a very sensible diet as long as you eat plenty of fruit, veg and grains and pulses. I have never tried it but I would assume it would work pretty well. I know milk is an appetite supressant. But make sure you eat some fruits and veggies too. All that dairy can make you constipated.

They recommend people to drink that much milk because it does have a lot of calcium but you can get a lot of calcium if you eat a better salad with Dinosaur Kale and other darker green leafy veggies like thin dark greener leafy lettuces (Romaine), Red leaf Lettuce, Green leaf lettuce, Dandelions, Spinach, etc........ all in one meal!! Most people use watercress lettuce for salads and although it does have a lot of water it is recomended to eat green leaf veggies for nutrients and vitamins that lettuce does not carry.A good replacement for milk is Dinosaur Kale or Kale juice if you have a juicer............and remember not to forget to eat color veggies and fruits like carrots, beets, tomatoes, potatoes, cilantro, parsley, Italian parsley, mint, etc..... They unlike milk will provide you with everything but the fat. Animal fat is needed but not as much and the other reason they recomend milk like any other diet because:They think you will have a balance diet including fiber foods, fruits, veggies, all types of meats, nuts.They expect you to do aerobic exercise for at least 30 minutes daily (you should also do an-aerobic exercise to maintain endurance, strenght, good health at least a couple days out of the week).Assuming that you are getting a good diet and exercise you should also get plenty of sleep.......before it was believed that kids should get 8 hours but if you talk to experts now days is recomended for them to get 10-12 hours and us grown ups 8-10 hours but since most people have stress lives only get about 6-8 so don't feel bad if you get less than 8 hours of sleep but do try to accomodate your daily work so that you can get more sleep.I hope this helps you get a more healthy perspective of what is good for any diet and don't go by the general idea of what works. You can loose weight doing pretty much anything but what they don't tell you is if it is recomended for helthy resons or just to ignorantly loose weight and later find yourself in a unhealthy way of living. You will need both a diet and resistance exercises to get big abs. Your body uses your abs for almost every exercise, it is the core of your strength. You can do a ab workout alone, but you will want to incorporate other workouts during the time you NEED to take off to recuperate from these types of workouts. Work your abs for a week and then take a week off. Also, other exercises will make your body look more proportionate.

Yes I have it, it works. It's a lot easier so you feel the burn in your stomach faster without the stress of doing a sit up. However you're more compelled to take rests and breaks in between, haha. If you go to fast on it (for me) I tend to get a headache cause my head is resting on the lounge and its going up and down really fast. When you don't work out on it, it makes a nice napping chair!

Fad diets just do not work.Eat only when hungry and that too not more than three times a day. Include uncooked fruits and vegetables in ur food. Take nothing but water in between the meals.Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This improves digestion besides activating ur brain telling u that u have had enough.Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.U will achieve ur ideal weight in a reasonable time period effortlessly.

Yes, I have tried P90X. I've been doing it for over a month. So far, I've lost an inch off of my waist (39.5" to 38.5") and have gained an inch back to my arms (17.5", I think). If you're interested in the muscle gain, my results are mostly the result of "muscle memory". I used to train a lot and then allowed myself to get out of shape. So, getting back to my old size is fairly "easy" as it originally took me 3 years to gain 60lbs of muscle. I never had to worry about losing fat but now that's exactly what I'm working on. I've leared that losing fat is tough, with any program. It takes time, patience, and DISCIPLINE. You have to stick to a quality nutritional plan (notice I didn't say "diet" here).. You have to adhere to a quality exercise routine. You have to allow adequate recovery and so forth. Of course, these are NOT bad things, they are part of a healthy lifestyle. That's my goal. Healthy. Whether or not a diet is healthy is separate from whether or not it will work. Also beware of diets that limit you to one food. Has anyone tried Nopalina for weight loss?

My sister in law told me that she is taking Nopalina for weight loss. She said that the first couple of days it gave her the runs but then she was o.k but that she has lost 4 lbs in two weeks. Calorie intakes in 1900 and 1950 were higher than they are now, we just don't use them up!A healthy amount of exercise is 30-40 minutes of vigorous exercise per day 4-5 days a week. Yes and no - depends on where you are - if you are a beginner it is a good way to begin but I didn't like it. The routine is too slow and you face other people on the circuit which I didn't like. You don't know where to look, like being in an elevator! ha ha
I changed to Bally's and got a few training sessions. Liked it a lot better, showed me what to do and I stuck to it.
You can also do exercises at home, I love Billy Blanks and jumping rope, that made a difference in one week! (as long as you also eat healthy). Good for you for thinking healthy!!

I went to Curves, I wasn't overweight but I wanted to lose inches. It worked for me. I lost 4 inches around waist and toned legs, arms and butt. I enjoyed it.
I actually liked it. I was a member for 1 1/2 years but because of my health, I didn't use it as much as I should have. There is very upbeat music, you exericse on a machine for so many seconds, then you walk, dance, jog, whatever you want on a mat next to the next machine for so many seconds, then you go to the next machine. My Curves had 12 machines and they recommend you do the circuit twice, then they give you slow down exercises. I was diagnosed with RA and just wasn't able to do a lot of the machines and it actually increase my fatigue. I think it is a good idea.

I did...I personally didn't see a difference. I was going through a stressful time happened to gain weight and when I heard about it this product I thought it was key! (and just in time). I didn't feel any different, and I didn't look any different when taking it. I actually tried it twice...both times--nothing. So who knows. I just know it didn't work for me. But honestly, there is no magic pill. If you are stressed there are alternative ways to relieve stress that you should look into, and as for belly fat, you have to watch what you eat and exercise. I have taken it. I found it a tad more physical than regular yoga that I had done. I really enjoyed the pace of it though. I did lose some weight on it but not a huge amount I was alreay tiny to begin with.
I founf this great form of yoga to be the most exciting, hard-working, effective form of exercise I have ever done.Myself, I have lost over 25 pounds since starting three months ago. You just can鈥檛 find a better surgeon than him! He鈥檚 probably done at least 500 of the surgeries, so far. I did so well after my surgery, I thank him every time I see him.
I made it to 175! It's been almost 2 years since my surgery. I haven't had any complications at all with my surgery! My health has been very good, and I've lost the weight nice and slow, so my body doesn't look that much out of shape. I've been faithfully taking my vitamins, and my blood work came back excellent! I still think very highly of Dr. Pilkington, and would recommend to anyone thinking of this surgery, to have Dr. Pilkington as his or her surgeon. I'm walking proof, that he is an excellent doctor. Has anyone read Kevin Trudeua's book entitled "weight loss cure"? His description seems illogical!!

This gentleman has 3 informercials on at the same time adveristing a book called the "Weight Loss Cure". Intially I thought there was some truth to what he was saying. However, his comments seem very contradictory when you listen to him.He stated that the Government allows certain chemicals in our foods which affect the hypothalamus and metabolism, causing weight gain, slow metabolism, and abnormal cravings. I'm inclined to agree with this, though I can't prove it.However, he goes on to say, after following the protocol in his book, imbalances will be corrected, fat permently removed, and one can resume eating all the same foods without worry of these problems repeating themselves.That makes no sense to me!! I would think, if the chemicals in our food is the cause of these problems, the moment one resumes eating these foods, it would start the process all over again? He also claims to have lost 45 lbs in six weeks. Has anyone read the book? If so, what is this "cure"?

I have his first book (Natural Cures THEY Don't Want You To Know About) and it's a total scam. Basically the same thing as the Weight Loss book. He's a total conspiracy theorist (and like you said, some of what he says makes sense, but he really takes it TOO far, I think). Yes, eating less chemicals and preservatives is healthier - that's obvious. But he keeps going - telling you that there's this miracle cure or that miracle supplement, but the FDA prohibits him from telling you about it in his book. So, go to his website and get the info. You go to the website and it's about $99 for a one year membership. Uhm... no thanks. Not to mention he's had thousands of complaints about his business practices. Triple billing, can't stop the monthly charge, etc. So far I don't know ANYONE who has actually been able to follow his protocol and get results, because it's all completely unrealistic.
And as for being able to go back to eating all these foods and not having a repeat of the problem, that makes NO sense. If the drugs/chemicals are in the food, what would stop it from happening again?
Eat as natural as possible, keep the chemicals to a minimum, get exercise - all realistic answers to the weight loss problem for MOST people. He, however, is nothing but a scam artist. I agree, the FDA and drug companies and food manufacturers are probably doing some things we'd prefer to believe they'd never do. But I'm not sure they're at the level that he suggests.
If he were in this to help people, not to make money, why are his books $30, and memberships to his website so expensive?

Sometimes when you start off exercising you gain weight because the muscles are building up once the muscles are built up then the weight or fatty tissue starts to drop. You will have to continue to use it for months before you notice weight lose or your stomach dropping...diet...drink more water and cut down on what you eat, especially junk foods...eat healthier with fruits and vegis... They do say you should get more carbohydrates for energy when you are exercising...Diet I think is taking out of proportation...The diet pills and all that garbage. I can drink one cup of coffee in the morning and water the rest of the day, no soda, juice and etc. and i can lose 2 to 3 pounds in a week...Dont give up to easy it is great you are trying to be healthier...

i just started dieting and ive never dieted this way before because i thought those lean cuisine means and such would taste like crap. but come to find out i actually really enjoy them. i cut out all fast food and soda. i drink diet coke once in a while and i cut down my intake in bread as well. do you think i will lose weght this way??? before i stared to diet all i ate was tons of carbs and fast food and junk food. should i keep eating these meals? will they work?

They are so yummy...mmm.they have so many varieties of food and it has portion control. i think you should keep eating them.
Watch out for high sodium in those meals. I don't think Lean Cuisine is that bad but you should only take in about 1500mg of sodium a day. To make a diet successful you need to pair it with working out. You want to burn more calories than you take in per day. Many women are scared of weight lifting due to not wanting to bulk up but if done correctly you will loose more inches and burn calories even after you finish your workout. I subscribe to Fitness magazine. It is for women and is very informative.

All diets work in the same way. If they restrict calories to a point where you are burning more than you eat, you will lose weight. If the diet does this than it will work, if not you will fail. Whether or not a diet is healthy is separate from whether or not it will work. If you severely restrict calories to under 1200 per day, you will lose weight but going this route is very unhealthy so be careful when reading about these diets. Also beware of diets that limit you to one food. Even if you are taking in a good amount of calories, you won't be able to get all the vitamins, nutrients, fat, carbohydrates or protein from just one type of food. hiya there!ive used xenical and i wouldnt reccommend it. ive had 3 courses each lasting 6 months without any effect on my weight. There was a major side effect which isnt too nice to mention which involves the secretion of oil and i mean proper oil, which is really nasty, i thought i could put up with it but if there is even a trace of fat in the food the side effects happen. i really wouldnt reccommend it , in the end i had the gastric band and lost stones. hope this helps and good luck !

Hi I have been taking Xenical on and off for a few months. I found the side effects were livable with (smelly wind etc.) And I did find it helped me maintain my weight although not really lose it. The major help I found was that it made me feel less bloated and more regular which helped with my overall shape. I found that it didnt really help with weight LOSS but just helped to maintain a little but definately did help me feel less bloated. You can get lots of different ytpes of herbal and less traditional remedies for weight loss on line and there are a few private clinics that will help. I lost 30 pounds in 4 weeks.
I lost 105 pounds in 6 months. Here is how I did it.
1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me. Also start counting your calories. Write them down. You would be amazed as to how much more aware you are of your caloric intake, if you actually write it down. That is extremely unhealthy. Healthy weight loss is 2 lbs a week, which would be 12 lbs in six weeks. If you do lose this much weight in that short of time, you are twice as likely to gain the weight back (probably weighing more than you did at the beginning of your crash diet). Do a natural diet of eating right, exercise and drinking lots of water. It takes longer, but its healthier, and more likely to stay goodbye to the weight for good.

well I drink whey protein shakes I make them into to coffee shakes which is really good plus, deli turkey, cottage cheese, turkey, all of these are high in protein and I eat these things with salads and lots of it with nothing but a little bit of fit and active ranch dressing, and some crackers unsalted, and I have lost up to 7 pounds in a week with eating these foods plus lots and lots of water I dring from 2-5 liters a day!!! Supposedly, if you had worked out extensively and had well developed muscles and then let yourself go (not completely) that it will be much easier for you to get back to a reasonably comparable state to where you were before as opposed to someone who has similar musculature but is starting to build muscle mass at the same time?
Answer:
Yes, there is such a thing as muscle memory.The scientific term for this is "neuromuscular fascilitation." Basically, when you train with weights, part of the adaptation is physical (i.e. a gain in muscle mass) but a large part is neurological. Your muscle is made of bundles of muscle fibers. Fibers work together in groups called "motor units". A motor unit has several fibers and a single nerve attached. Motor units follow the "all-or-nothing" rule. They can either be fully contracted, or not at all - there is no "in between." The difference between lifting a heavy weight or a light weight is the number of motor units that contract at the same time - more motor units means more force output from the muscle. That translates to either a heavier weight lifted or faster movement (like throwing a punch). The firing of these motor units is called "recruitment." When you do not train, your brain is not very good at recruiting motor units. Therefore, you are weak. When you train, the central nervous system "learns" how to better recruit these motor units. This is how your coordination improves. This is also why you can gain strength without gaining muscle mass or size - you are working with the same muscle fibers, but your brain and central nervous system are basically doing a better job of having them all perform work at the same time. This also leads to "tone" which is when the muscle fibers contract in anticipation of work, and leads to a firm muscle.When you begin training again after a long time, the central nervous system can "remember" the coordination. This is muscle memory. It means you will gain strength quickly because instead of learning it the first time, you are remembering the pattern of recruitment for training. This is also why it may seem you gain muscle quickly. The muscle was there, but now it becomes more firm ("toned") due to the new training stimulus.Jeremy Likness

yes. it's been around for a long time. i don't think it's dangerous as long as you don't do it for more than a few days at a time. while doing it, your body will not be getting all the nutrients it needs. i have heard that you lose weight on it though. but its essentially a starvation diet, so of course you would.
I haven't heard of it but it sounds like yet another fad diet. "Fad" diets may give you results, and they may even be quick results, but the weight loss never lasts. It's like any liquid diet, or even Atkins (no carbs). You can not completely eliminate one thing from your diet and expect to get lasting results. The best way to lose weight is through healthy diet and exercise. That's it. There's no magic pill, drink, or "too good to be true" diet that will be effective in the long run.
